PHONES ARE RINGING AT BWP ...
APRIL'S STORY --
April,
36, has an 11-year-old and an 18-month-old. She works full time
and recently lost her child care. The hourly rate she is paying
now is too expensive because of her low paying job. Beaches Women’s
Partnership connected April with Child Care Resource and Referral.
There, she reports,
she received “lots of good information and six different possibilities
for day care,” all of which would fit within her budget. April told
us, “I will definitely refer women needing help to you.
ASHLEY'S
STORY --
Ashley, 24, has a one-year-old. She is in a mentally abusive marriage
and wants to file for divorce but doesn’t have the money for an
attorney. Beaches Women’s Partnership connected Ashley with Legal
Aid for information about her options.
Ashley
reports she is very happy with the help she received.
BRENDA'S STORY --
Brenda, a single parent with two children, is working part time.
She called to find help to improve her income.
BWP
referred her to the FCCJ Women’s Center, Work Source and the Jacksonville
Urban League. She has met with FCCJ and completed a career assessment.
Both FCCJ and Brenda are hopeful she is on the road to a new job.
IRENE'S STORY --
Irene is a 50-plus-year-old woman who called to find help with dental
work she can’t afford. Also, her sister needs a living will.
BWP
referred her to Dentists Care of Jacksonville, which is providing
her dental work for a nominal fee. She also was referred to Legal
Aid, which is preparing the living will.
JENNIFER'S STORY --
Jennifer, 42, and her two children moved here from New Orleans after
Hurricane Katrina. She needed medical care and day care for her
children. Beaches Women’s Partnership connected her with a pediatrician
and day care she could afford so that she could continue to work.
Jennifer was very grateful for the information.
LINDA'S STORY --
Linda, 66, called Beaches Women’s Partnership looking for housing
and employment. We connected her with the Jacksonville Housing Authority,
Work Source, and Job Junction.
From
these referrals, Linda got two jobs and now hopes to save enough
money to move out of her small apartment into something with a little
more room. She was quite excited to tell us about her new opportunities.
MARIA'S STORY --
Maria, 46, has a daughter who is 7. Maria works part-time. She was
having difficulty paying October’s rent, and she had not received
food stamps for two months because of a mix-up with her paperwork.
Beaches
Women’s Partnership connected Maria with BEAM for financial help
and assistance with her food stamp application, as well as a program
that will help Maria explore her eligibility for an Earned Income
Tax Credit. In a follow-up conversation, Maria said she was “so
glad I had someone to turn to. God bless you.”
MARY' STORY --
Mary J. said she needed medical help but is uninsured and cannot
afford a private physician. BWP referred her to Mission House and
Beaches Family Health Center. Mission House is assisting her. She
reports she is “most pleased with our services.”
MONIQUE'S STORY --
A single parent, Monique called for information about improving
her income.
BWP
referred her to the FCCJ Women’s Center, where she is getting help
to improve her skills and marketability. AND she has already found
a new job! In the follow-up conversation, she thanked us for “the
wonderful services you offer.”
NETTIE'S STORY --
Nettie, 92, lives alone. She called Beaches Women’s Partnership
because she needed help finding a ride to her doctor’s appointments.
We
connected her with Hart Felt Ministries and Dial-A-Ride. Now Nettie
does not have to worry about how she will get to her doctor’s appointments.
TONYA'S STORY --
Tonya, 37, is new to the area and has been living with relatives.
Now she and her three children are preparing to move into their
own apartment. Tonya needs furniture and also is concerned about
having enough food.
Beaches
Women’s Partnership connected her with St. Vincent DePaul for assistance
with furniture and BEAM for help with food. Tonya felt satisfied
her needs were met and reports she and her children are looking
forward to having a home of their own.
URSULA'S STORY --
Ursula, 33, called Beaches Women’s Partnership needing eyeglasses
and a Pap test. She has no insurance and limited finances.
We
connected her with the Lions Club, which provided eyeglasses, and
Beaches Family Health Center, where she got a doctor’s appointment
and Pap test. In a follow-up call, Ursula said she was “very appreciative”
of the help from BWP.
